A 26-YEAR-OLD homeless man has been charged following two alleged distraction burglaries in Poole.

Officers were called to the home of an elderly woman in Heath Avenue at 1.30pm on Wednesday December 21.

They were told a man had knocked on the door, claiming that he was from the council and needed to check her outside fence for maintenance.

When the woman went into the garden to look at the fence, it is alleged that her handbag was stolen from inside her house.

The second offence is alleged to have taken place in Kingsmill Road in Poole on Tuesday December 27.

The man, who is of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of dwelling burglary and one of theft and appeared before Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday January 5.

He is next due to appear before Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday February 2.
