THE future of a Bournemouth beachfront arcade seems to have reached a stalemate.

Bournemouth Borough Council was in discussions with the landlord of Happyland, Meyrick Estate, over the “long-term plan” for the building earlier this summer.

Cllr John Beesley wrote to the Daily Echo advising that the “currently under-utilised” site was being analysed for its “viable redevelopment potential”.

It forms part of the council’s seafront strategy which aims to improve the chines, central beach, coastal activity parks and nature parks.

But the council has said that no decision or even options about the site’s future have been discussed in recent months and are unlikely to be for some weeks.

The west side of Happyland has for some weeks been fenced off – including the ice-cream parlour.

When the Daily Echo asked the Happyland manager if there was any update on the matter, he told the reporter to speak to the council and said they would make no comment on the issue.
