A PET dog stolen from a Bournemouth pub when its owner fell ill has been found safe and well.

Officers investigating the incident, which took place at the Moon in the Square in Exeter Road at 11.30pm on November 27, say they are "delighted" with the find.

Police yesterday released CCTV images of a woman they wish to speak to in connection with the theft.

The victim, a woman in her 50s from Buckinghamshire, was being treated by paramedics at the Wetherspoons when her cockapoo Sophie and her handbag were stolen.

Following the appeal, officers say they were called by a number of members of the public.

This afternoon, a cockapoo was found on its own outside Hamworthy Library in Blandford Road, Poole. The dog had been micro-chipped and was confirmed to be Sophie.

No arrests have been made.

However, enquiries are continuing.

PC Steve Lea, of Bournemouth police, said: "I would like to pass on my thanks, along with those of the owner, to everyone who has contacted us about this case.

"The public's response to my appeal has been overwhelming and all the help we have received is very much appreciated.

"Without the public's help it would not have been possible to reunite the dog with its owner.

"It's great to know that Sophie will be spending Christmas at home with her family."
