CHRISTCHURCH boss Ollie Cherrett is drawing inspiration from Poole Town as his team prepare for their clash with Baffins Milton Rovers tomorrow.

Priory have won their past five games – and lost only once in 11 – on their way to fourth in Sydenhams Wessex One.

Cherrett told the Daily Echo: “I’ve not been surprised by this run. We have good players and they are desperate to do well.

“In any level of football you have good runs and bad runs. Hopefully, we got our bad run out the way early.

“Look at Poole Town over the past three or four years. When you’re winning it becomes a habit and it’s very hard to get out of that habit.”

While Poole, a Wessex Premier side five years ago, are fighting it out at the top end of National South, Christchurch must focus on bridging a six-point gap on Baffins.

Cherrett is reading nothing into their third-placed opponents’ recent dip in form, which continued with a 9-0 Portsmouth Senior Cup thumping by Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday.

“Is it ever a good time to play anyone?” he said. “Both teams will be up for it and it’s an opportunity for us, after a bad start, to close that gap and put ourselves back in contention for promotion.”
