A NEW police inspector has been welcomed in Dorset.

Insp Steve Yeoman will be responsible for the force's eastern section, which covers East Dorset and Christchurch.

Introducing himself to members of the Ferndown North Neighbourhood Watch, Insp Yeoman said: "I strongly believe in the power and effectiveness of partnership working, both with our communities and local businesses.

"Neighbourhood Watch is a great example of what can be achieved by dedicated, committed people giving up their time to make our communities safer and stronger."

He reassured residents that the area "remains one of the safest and most secure places to live and work" in the south.

Insp Yeoman has been a serving police officer for 20 years.

He first began his career in Thames Valley Police before transferring to Dorset in 2000.

The former inspector of the eastern section, officer Wayne Nock, is now a force incident controller at the force's headquarters in Winfrith.
