McDONALD’S customers can have fast food brought to their tables after the Boscombe branch underwent a major refurbishment.

The innovation is part of an overhaul that includes more seating, an indoor play area and tablet computers at tables.

Franchisee Tony Bennett invested in the technology as well as creating seating upstairs and adding the free play area.

The burger chain says the refurbishment is part of a nationwide commitment by franchisees to an ‘evolution’ programme.

It says digital innovation is at the heart of the revamp, with customers given more choices of how to order and pay.

Table service was tried at 14 restaurants across England last year and proved popular, McDonald’s says. It expects 400 restaurants in the UK to be offering table service by the end of the year.

Franchisee Tony Bennett started his career more than 30 years ago and runs 11 restaurants across Hampshire and Dorset. “We’re thrilled with the transformation because we’re committed to offering our customers’ more choice and fast service,” he said.

“Technology has a huge role to play in all walks of life, including our customers’ eating out experience, so the new technology we’ve introduced recognises the way people live their lives today.

“The addition of table service enables customers to order at the self-order kiosk and then sit down at a designated zone to get served. From mums coming in with their kids, to people having a working lunch, I expect the feedback to be very positive.”

New layouts and technology in the kitchens at Boscombe means products will be freshly prepared to order.

Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s UK, said: “We are confident that the investment we are making will bring new and exciting changes to McDonald’s in Boscombe and across the rest of the UK. We’ve listened to customer feedback and know we need to modernise further in order to move the McDonald’s experience on and remain relevant to the lives of the three million customers we serve daily.

“Restaurants like Boscombe will deliver a fast and easy experience, aided by digital and traditional ordering points ensuring we continue to be enjoyed by our customers.”
