From the orange sofa in the window, to the purple door with a yellow picture frame hanging on it - you could be forgiven for thinking you'd walked onto the set of Friends.

But that's exactly what the owners of the newly opened Monica's Cafe Ltd want you to think.

Kelly Vaughan, along with her sisters Jess and Sam, came up with the idea for the Friends-themed eaterie, in Barrack Road, Christchurch, after they nicknamed her Monica - after the super-organised chef in the 90s sitcom.

The 26-year-old, who has worked in cafes since she was 17 and even ran one in Charminster for a friend, ran with the idea until it eventually became a reality last month.

Kelly's whole family were involved in transforming the building, which they have leased for three years, into one big tribute to the TV show, with the walls plastered with pictures and quotes from the characters.

"We've got the orange sofa, we've got brick wallpaper on one wall, we've got the purple door and the yellow frame that we've had made, we've got a guitar - it's snippets from everything," says Kelly.

"We've got sayings up like 'Oh my God', like Janis says. Even my mum has been watching it and saying 'they've got this, you need to buy this'."

Even the menu is Friends-inspired, with a veggie Phoebe burger, Ross's Dinosaur Breakfast, a Central Perk wrap and a Rachel Green Salad.

Kelly is keen to also provide outside catering, and has set up a separate part of the business, called Central Perk Catering - after the famous coffee shop on the show.

"We've got a three-year lease at the moment - we wanted to see how it went," she explains.

"But we were trying to get hold of the lease for nearly a year - we wanted this shop because it's such a good place to be. There's not really anything like this around here and the parking seemed quite good.

"I've been doing this for so long, since I was 17. I just thought I should be doing it for myself and put my own stamp on it. My friend sold the cafe I was running in Charminster and it encouraged me to go and do it.

"It's real now."

Kelly is hoping her choice of theme will prove as popular with her customers as it is with her own family.

"My mum has made a huge collage of Friends, we're going to print out some pictures and get them framed and put them up," she says of the final decorating touches.

"We are three sisters doing it together - they call me Monica because they think I'm like her. But everyone knows Friends and everyone loves it."
