A DISABLED teen has helped to raise £3.8million for charity by taking part in a 470-mile relay challenge in a rickshaw.

Ebony Robinson, 18, from Bournemouth, was one of six young people that took on The One Show's Rickshaw Challenge with the help of TV presenter, Matt Baker, in aid of BBC Children in Need.

The teen, who goes to Victoria Education Centre based in Branksome, has Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) which means that she relies on her electric wheelchair for mobility. She was chosen for the the tough multi-terrain challenge from the Scottish border to central London through her involvement with the Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) Society, a charity supporting young people with the life-limiting condition and their families, which receives funding from BBC Children in Need.

Speaking about the fundraising mission on a rickshaw, Ebony said: "It was definitely a tough challenge, with the hills, distance and weather on top some of the limitations from my A-T, but I wouldn’t have changed a single minute of it.

"I made some great friends on the journey and being part of a team that helped raise this amazing total was so worth it. To everyone who supported, a huge thank you for keeping Team Rickshaw going."

Presenter, Matt Baker, said: "Each member of this year’s Team Rickshaw should be incredibly proud of their hard work. To cover 470 miles over some of the UK's toughest terrain at this time of year is no easy thing.

"Not only have they helped raise another phenomenal total, which will go on to benefit even more young lives just like theirs, but they overcame many personal challenges of their own out on the road. The public's support and generosity kept us going to the end, and as a result, the money raised will make a huge difference.”

The Rickshaw Challenge has been organised annually for the past six years and has collectively raised over £15.8million to help poorly and disadvantaged children.

Donations for the challenge are still being accepted. To donate £5 text the word TEAM to 70405 or to donate £10 text TEAM to 70410. For more information, go to BBC.co.uk/pudsey
