VISITORS to Pier Approach this Christmas can take in panoramic views of Bournemouth from a big wheel standing more than 100 feet tall.

The wheel will be one of a series of attractions at the seafront, with an interactive screen and spiral Christmas tree-lined walkway leading to a letter box to the North Pole also planned.

Stefan Krause, Coastal Business Improvement District (BID) manager, said: "After the successful Christmas celebration launch event on the seafront, I can’t wait to see these seasonal attractions in the same location."

He said the attractions will "add more bright sparkles to the festive skyline", as well as attracting visitors to Bournemouth.

The wheel features 23 gondolas and stands at 114 feet - or 35 metres - tall.

Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £4 for children. Bournemouth residents will be entitled to 50p off the ticket price with proof of a BH postcode.

Visitors can enjoy the big wheel between 10am and 10pm from Thursday, December 8 until Saturday, January 7.

The Christmas tree walkway leading to Santa's postbox will be in place from Monday, December 12.

The town's Christmas offer continues in the gardens and town centre until January 3.

Steve Hughes, manager of the Town Centre BID team, said: “Bournemouth is putting on a real show this Christmas.

"In the town centre we have a bigger and better ice rink, illuminated gardens, nutcracker trail and our popular snow globe still to come.

"With our great shops, bars and restaurants, as well as free parking on late night shopping Thursdays and Sundays, Bournemouth is the place to be.”
