A weather warning for wind has been issued for Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset.

Gusts of up 70-80mph are possible along the coast, although forecasters say they are likely to be more like 50-60mph.

The warning reads: "Southwesterly winds will increase on Monday night and into Tuesday morning, bringing gusts of 50 to 60 mph on coasts, with a low risk of 70-80 mph. Inland, gust speeds are likely to be 10 mph or so lower.

"Please be aware of the risk of damage to trees and disruption to transport, and of large waves coming onto sea fronts.

"A deep low coming northeast across England will carry a swathe of strong winds from the English Channel inland. Even at this range there is uncertainty about the depth and track of the low, and therefore the strength of the winds."

Storm Angus, which swept over Dorset on Saturday, battered the coastline, damaging the sea wall in Swanage

Although the storm was initially expected to hit the South West overnight on Sunday, the strongest of the winds and heavy rain associated with it are now confined to parts of southeast England, which is seeing the strongest winds this morning.

Meanwhile, drivers have been urged to be alert for surface flooding and wind-driven debris following the storm.

The Environment Agency has also issued flood alerts for the River Avon and the River Stour due to the heavy rainfall.

The tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch are rising in response and are forecast to exceed 'bankful conditions'.

Water levels in the upper River Stour and tributaries from Wincanton to Sturminster Newton are also expected to rise.
