It's been a week of perfect contrasts so far and it's only Monday! Sunday saw me at the BIC watching Catfish & The Bottlemen blasting out their songs and tonight sees me just down the road at the more intimate Pavilion with the wonderful Gabrielle.

Having had to cut short or cancel a couple of gigs recently it was great that the tour was back on track and made it to the venue. The near capacity crowd was in for a real treat of music and chat from one of the best soul voices this country has produced in the last 25 years.

Starting with When A Woman followed by Give Me A Little More Time and Tell Me What You Dream the crowd soon got into the mellow mood of the evening.

The voice is as soulful as ever and was perfectly supported by a three-piece band and two backing singers. The sound was really well balanced for the size of the venue letting the tunes be heard as they were intended to be.

Fallen Angel and Say Goodbye were followed be a double treat for me as a massive Weller fan to hear Why the track recorded with the Man himself half-way into the set.

Interspersing the songs with chat and banter with the crowd added to the warm feel of the evening and subtly closed the gap between the stage and the crowd. Sunshine On My Window had them on their feet and singing along, long standing favorite Rise kept them there. Less well known Don't Need The Sun To Shine was equally well received but with two Brits, two MOBO's and an Ivor Novello to her name I suppose the quality of the set list was never in question. The main set ended with the excellent Rise and Don’t Need The Sun To Shine.

After a quick break an encore of Out Of Reach and Dreams may have received the biggest reaction of the night but this was a show full of great songs perfectly delivered by one of the most talented singers around at the moment.

What a great was to spend a cold Monday night, or any night for that matter.
