AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a bungalow in Broadstone.

Three crews from Poole were called to the living room fire in Wynne Close at around 9.10am today.

Police also attended to cordon off the house while firefighters worked to put out the blaze, thought to have been caused by smoking materials.

An 86-year-old woman was given first aid by the fire crews before the arrival of paramedics, who took the woman to Poole Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and a leg injury.

Station manager Steve Broad, who attended the incident, said: “After a thorough investigation we believe this fire to have been caused by smoking materials. A smoke alarm was activating at the premises when fire crews arrived.”

Neighbour Lynne Burton, 65, said: “As far as we know she is ok, I think it was the smoke more than anything else.”
