A MAIN Poole route will be resurfaced during half term.

Works to a section of Waterloo Road, between the Sopers Lane signal junction and the Hatchpond Road signal junction, will take place today and tomorrow.

The work will complete the major signal refurbishment scheme carried out at Waterloo Road earlier in the year at a cost of around £665,000.

Engineers weren't able to finish the resurfacing work at the same time as the main work as Southern Gas Network needed to carry out emergency works to repair a gas leak.

The Waterloo Road scheme will take place between 9.30am and 4pm on both days.

The road will remain open to motorists, although temporary lane closures will be in place and delays are expected.

Residents directly affected are advised to leave their homes via Plantation Road and Canford Heath Road.

John Rice, engineering manager at Borough of Poole said: “As Waterloo Road is such a busy road we have planned for the works to take place during half term and to coincide with the Gravel Hill works, as there is generally 15 per cent less traffic on the roads during this period.

“We recognise that the works will cause some unavoidable disruption to road users and would ask motorists to allow extra time for their journeys or seek an alternative route. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while these final improvements are carried out."
