MAY I take the opportunity to congratulate and thank Lush Cosmetics for the excellent restoration work that they carried out on Digby Chambers in Post Office Road in the past months?

Digby Chambers, though not a listed building, is one of the finest examples of Victorian High Gothic architecture in Bournemouth and also marks the site of The Methodist church which stood next to the very first building in Bournemouth, the Inn called the Tregonwell Arms which stood on the heath and was positioned on the entrance to Post Office Road.

The original fine arched Victorian stonework and windows had been damaged in the 1920s in a poor attempt to put up signage by the former tailors Dunn & Co.

This architectural find and the subsequent damage was only uncovered a few months ago during a refurbishment.

The company has clearly spent many tens of thousands of pounds of their own money plus the cost of having to remain closed, to restore the Victorian High Gothic features including intricate stone work and hard wood windows and the new work has been carried out by the best master masons and carpenters.

The ground floor shops of this glorious building now looks magnificent and I hope will be appreciated by visitors and residents of Bournemouth as much as it is by me.
