A POOLE supermarket worker has raised more than £1,000 by having his head shaved for charity.

Stuart Osborne, who decided to 'Brave the Shave' for Macmillan Cancer Support, climbed into the barber's chair at Tesco Branksome - and supermarket customers cheered him along.

The 51-year-old customer assistant signed up for the charity initiative for personal reasons - he lost his mum to cancer 13 years ago.

Stuart, from Poole, said: "It was the hardest time of my life watching my mum lose her battle to cancer and I now want to raise as much money as possible for an amazing charity in memory of my mum and others affected by cancer.

"I had my head shaved in the store and the customers were really supportive. So many people are affected by cancer, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored me.

"I only set out to raise £500, but I've already raised £1,152."

Macmillan provides vital support to people with cancer and their families, and this summer they asked members of the public to stand besides patients being treated for cancer - by having their heads shaved.

Colleagues from across Dorset donated to support Stuart, who has worked for the supermarket chain for 27 years. Shop workers from Portland and Portsmouth dug deep, and the Tesco Charity Trust has agreed to add 20 per cent to the total Stuart raises.

A Macmillan Cancer Support spokesman said: "At Macmillan, we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything. So we’re here to support you and help you take back some control in your life. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, we're here."
