DETECTIVES have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a man in Bournemouth.

Police were called to an address in Wootton Gardens in the early hours of Friday by the ambulance service.

The victim had been found in a critical condition at the house, which has been converted into flats, and died a short time afterwards.

Meanwhile, a 58-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of administering a poison/drug with intent to endanger life. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The deceased has not yet been identified by police, but the coroner has been notified.

An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Detective Inspector Neil Wright, of Bournemouth CID, said: "A cordon has been put in place at the address while crime scenes investigators examine the scene.

"Officers are also carrying out house-to-house enquiries."

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, told the Daily Echo they were woken by emergency services arriving but they had no idea about anyone who lived in the house.

Det Insp Wright confirmed: "Dorset Police is investigating the man's death which is being treated as unexplained at this time.

Enquires are now underway to establish exactly what happened at this address in Wootton Gardens.

"I am appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Wootton Gardens area yesterday evening or the early hours of this morning to contact Dorset Police as soon as possible.

"Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area over the coming days to offer reassurance to the community and can be contacted with any concerns."
