IT was the moment he’s been waiting for.

While for most children school and dreaded homework may be mundane, 10-year-old Felix Brown is overjoyed to be back at school full time after months of gruelling cancer treatment.

And what better way to mark his return than a party with all his friends who even got to sticky tape teachers to the wall of the school hall in the name of charity.

Hill View Primary School hosted a fundraising day in aid of the children’s cancer ward where Felix is being treated. And in return for a donation, children armed with sticky tape put headteacher Amanda Jones and deputy head Daniel Pope in a sticky situation.

Felix, said: “Everyone has welcomed me back like I’ve never been away. I get to see all my friends again and just be normal.”

‘Team Brown’s’ world was turned upside down on January 28 when Felix was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

He became an internet sensation after launching a blog The Diary of Felix Brown to chart his battle with the disease.

Football fan Felix is now in the maintenance stage of chemotherapy which will last until 2019. That means he has oral chemotherapy every day – sometimes taking up to 21 tablets a day, weekly blood tests and regular clinic appointments at Poole and Southampton General Hospital.

The fundraiser raised money for Piam Brown children’s cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital.

Mum Kerry, a teacher at Bourne Academy, said: “The Piam Brown family are the only people who really know and understand what it means to have a child with cancer. They are people who really know what Felix, his brother and sister, grandparents, his friends and we have been through, and what the road ahead looks like.

“Felix is doing tremendously. We are so proud of the way he has held his head high and returned to school again like nothing has happened.

“There were huge cheers and elation when Felix arrived at school on the first day.

“It’s lovely on a Sunday afternoon to have that back to school feeling knowing that all three of the children will be putting their uniform on Monday morning.

“It’s great for us all that things have got back to some sense of normal relatively quickly.”

Headteacher Amanda Jones said: “When Felix was diagnosed it sent shock waves though the school. He’s been with us for six years and when he was away from school during his treatment we all missed him dearly.

“It’s just lovely to have Felix back at school full time. Our sense of community is something we are proud of, and when we all come together for a celebratory fundraising event like this it really shows. We come together in support of each other whenever someone needs it. It’s part of what makes Hill View such a special place.”
