BOURNEMOUTH won a host of awards at a national competition recognising the floral attributes and green spaces in the town.

Rev Chris Colledge, chairman of Bournemouth in Bloom, attended a special ceremony in Fareham for the South and South East in Bloom awards ceremony, along with fellow committee members, councillors, the Bournemouth Parks team, and children from St Michael's School.

Accolades included winning gold in the large coastal town, as well as highly commended awards for large conservation area, community growth project and large park.

Reverend Chris Colledge said that it was something for all Bournemouth residents to feel proud of.

Councillor Lawrence Williams, portfolio holder for tourism, leisure and the arts at Bournemouth Council, said: "Being highly commended in so many categories in the South and South East in Bloom awards puts us in a very positive position for the Britain in Bloom awards coming up soon.

"Congratulations to all who were involved and good luck for the next set of awards."

A team from Bournemouth in Bloom will be heading to the national Britain in Bloom finals, which are being held in Birmingham on October 14, after as a nominee for the Coastal over 12k South and South East category.
