THERE'S just a few weeks left to nominate your local hero for the first ever Daily Echo Local Hero Awards.

The competition aims to recognise unsung heroes in our communities, whether it was a single act in rescuing someone from a dangerous situation, or a person who has devoted their life to animal welfare.

But many of these individuals don’t receive the recognition they deserve, so it's down to members of the public to nominate them by Thursday October 13.

Nominations are sought in ten different categories:

  • Carer of the year
  • Contributor to local sport
  • Charity fundraiser
  • Bravery award
  • Neighbour of the year
  • Community hero
  • Volunteer of the year
  • Lifetime achievement
  • Animal champion
  • Emergency services hero

To nominate someone for a local hero award, fill out the form at bournemouthecho.co.uk/localheroawards

Heroes shortlisted for the awards will be invited to a gala dinner taking place on November 10 at AFC Bournemouth where the winners will be announced and trophies presented.

Angela Boyer, the Daily Echo's sales and events manager, said: "We appreciate that many of these ‘heroes’ don’t do what they do for recognition – however, recognition is what they deserve, so don’t hesitate in telling us their stories.

"You’ve probably all heard of someone who has been helping walk dogs for a local animal charity, or has assisted in rescuing an unwell neighbour – tell us about it or their story may never be heard. Please include as much information as possible, including names and contact details of those who can collaborate your nomination."

Terms and conditions:

Acts of heroism need to be relatively recent and to have taken place on or after September 2, 2015. The deadline is Thursday October 13.

Sponsorship packages are available for £1,200 (plus VAT) per category which includes 20,000 targeted digital display ads and brand exposure of 250,000 opportunities.
