THE next generation of potential RAF recruits have been able to update their flight simulator thanks to a £3,000 donation.

In celebration of its 75th anniversary, The Royal Air Force Air Cadets 1069 Flight Refuelling Wimborne Squadron have been given a £3,000 donation from the Talbot Village Trust.

After receiving the funds from the grant-making charity, the air cadets were able to take their flight simulator to new heights with the installation of up-to-date software for squadron training.

Flight lieutenant Nigel Winton, commanding officer, said: "This funding has allowed us to invest in updating software that was very much needed to continue to offer RAF training of the highest standard to our cadets.

"In our 75th year, we are grateful that the Trust has allowed us to maintain the training which those before us have historically provided."

Based in Wimborne, the unit is dedicated to supporting young people by providing training in all required aspects of flight to an RAF standard.

Cadets also have the opportunity to take part in various outdoor activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury, who is a trustee at the Talbot Village Trust, said: ‘‘I am pleased that the squadron chose to come to the Trust for help to update their facilities.

"The Wimborne Squadron teaches a number of young people the importance of discipline and also a range of highly complex skills.

"It is important for the community to continue to have the squadron as a stepping stone to a potential career in the RAF."

The Talbot Village Trust meets bi-annually and will be accepting applications for funding from both previous and new applicants in the area before the trustees meet again in November.
