THIS is the heartwarming moment an 11-year-old boy reads a braille invitation to find out he is going on a holiday of a lifetime to Orlando.

Harley Richardson, who has a rare genetic condition that left him blind at birth, will spend 10 days visiting theme parks in Florida on an annual charity Dreamflight trip with 191 other children.

The charity, which is this year celebrating its 30th year, changes lives by offering children with a serious illness or disability the chance to go on holiday.

Harley was nominated by his teacher at St Michael’s Middle School, Colehill.

Mum Sam recorded the moment her son discovered he was invited on the surprise trip.

In the video, Harley is filmed, speechless before smiling and adding: “I’m going on a holiday? Oh my God, to Florida? Oh my God!”

Harley was born with the incurable illness leber congenital amaurosis and received care at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

However mum-of-two Sam said his disability does not hold him back.

“It hasn’t stopped him doing anything. He goes ice skating, rides a bike, he loves swimming, he does everything. Nothing stops him.”

Harley said he is most looking forward to the rides, meeting somebody from NASA and having the opportunity to feed a shark.

“He is a total adrenaline junkie so he’s really looking forward to it,” said Sam.

Dreamflight, which relies on fundraising and donations to raise the £750,000 needed for the annual trip, sets out to inspire children into achieving goals despite disability or illness. For many children, including Harley, the trip will be the first away from home, with volunteer doctors, nurses and medical professionals helping act as chaperones during the holiday.

Sam, from Wimborne, added: “This will be an amazing opportunity for Harley and I’m sure his confidence will grow. Sometimes watching him, it’s a ‘your heart is in your mouth job’ but we have to take the leap of faith and encourage him to go for it. I want him to have a good life and I don’t want him to ever think he cannot do something.

“It took a while for it to sink in that he was going and he cannot wait!”

Harley’s teacher Robin, said: “Dreamflight is a fantastic charity, entirely funded by donations, that brings so much pleasure to children who have very difficult lives and miss out on many of the joys of childhood.”
