A MAN is in hospital in 'a serious condition' after he was involved in a collision with a car.

Emergency services were called to Ensbury Bridge at New Road on Tuesday night where a pedestrian was found on the embankment after being 'knocked over the bridge'.

The man - whose age is not known - was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he is in a serious but not life-threatening condition.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Police were called at 9.31pm to a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in New Road, Bournemouth.

"The pedestrian was knocked over the bridge and onto the embankment.

"Ambulance attended and the pedestrian was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

"His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

"A diversion was put in at Kinson Park Road and Parley Cross but the road reopened at 11.44pm and there was a recovery for the vehicle involved."

Police have no record of the vehicle involved.

"No arrests have been made," the spokesperson said, adding that the driver suffered no injuries.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said the man was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries "in a serious condition".

They sent one officer however three crews reached the scene after receiving the call.

Firefighters from Redhill were dispatched to help with the incident by providing much-needed lighting to assist police and paramedics.
