RNLI lifeguards, police, and coastguard were involved in a search for an eight-year-old boy at Branksome Chine beach.
Officers received a call from lifeguards at 3.20pm reporting a concern for welfare of a young boy who had gone missing.
He was found by lifeguards, safe and well, an hour later.
They had paged Southbourne Coastguard for assistance, however they were not needed.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Because of the boy's age and the fact it was a busy day at the beach, we wanted to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."
