‘A T-Rex giving birth at 5.40am’ is how one Bournemouth resident has described the racket made by the bin lorry coming down his street.

Alex Deutsch recorded screeching and groans worthy of the Jurassic Park sound track yesterday morning, as the refuse collection made its way down Parkwood Road in Southbourne.

He told the Echo the noise lasted a full 15 minutes as the vehicle made its way down the road.

“The video doesn’t even do it justice,” he added.

“I normally hear them - but that noise was obscene. I actually woke up laughing. I had to film it to make sure I wasn’t imagining it.

“If it was us making a noise like that we would have had an ASBO by now!”

Alex, 26, a manager at a telecoms company in Bournemouth added: “I do appreciate they are trying to do a job and we all need our bins emptied so I’m not furious about it - but it is a bit much. I just think that they could use a truck that’s possibly fit for purpose.

“If they can’t do it a bit later - and I appreciate they have a lot of bins to collect - they might use a truck which doesn’t sound like a T-rex giving birth!”

Alex, whose Tweet of the video attracted many amused responses, also had a Twitter reply from the bin lorry’s driver, who apologised for the din which he put down to ‘folded cardboard from a Euro bin.”

He tweeted: “Again sorry to every one in the street. Me and the loaders were saying how ear splitting it was. The whole truck shakes!”

Paul Hancock, principal fleet engineering and depot services manager at Bournemouth council, said: “We are aware of a noise issue from a vehicle used by one of the council’s waste collection contractors.

"This issue has been reported by the driver and the fault is being rectified today. The contractor is phasing in brand new refuse collection vehicles and the full fleet of seven will be operative by October 2016.”
