MIDFIELDER Josh Wakefield has joined National League Aldershot following his summer release from Cherries

The 22-year-old, who made four senior appearances for Cherries from the bench, has experience of non-league’s top flight after loan spells with Welling United and Torquay United.

He stepped up to League Two with Yeovil Town last season, making six starts for the Glovers at the start of the campaign.

Born in Frimley, Surrey, he now returns to his roots.

Wakefield said: “I had a good six years at Bournemouth, there were a few ups and downs but I have come away with a lot of experience which helped me to become the footballer I am today.

“One thing I have probably lacked in recent years is a good run of games where I have been able to hit the ground running, so one of my aims this season is to get a lot of games under my belt and really start kicking on.

“I have played a lot of under-21s football and the step up to men's football is a lot greater than some people think.

“For me to be in a first-team squad every week is what I want. The standard of players here is very good so if selected, I'll be raring to go and eager to play well.”

Wakefield was speaking to Aldershot’s official website.
