DARCY Ward remains open to an involvement at Poole Pirates – even if his heart is set on remaining in Australia.

The Wimborne Road favourite, paralysed by an accident in Poland last August, confirmed his intention to stay on the Gold Coast but would like a role in helping promoter Matt Ford with his future team plans.

On the prospect of playing an active role in the sport, Ward said: “It is tough. I get pretty cold and if I get cold, it stays the same all day.

“I want to be in Australia but I enjoy every part of being here and being with the boys.

“I was involved heavily with Torun this year and helping to pick their team positions, who rides where and who goes well together with who.

“I would love to help Matt. I have been helping Brady (Kurtz) this year and I want to be part of it forever.

“I am up to date, follow all the websites. I would like to think I could have a big impact and that I know my speedway.”

Ward, speaking at an open forum after Poole’s 52-38 victory over Wolverhampton last night, revealed plans to extend the Darcy Ward Foundation’s scope to helping others.

There will be a sky dive for the foundation at Dunkeswell, near Honiton, on Sunday, September 4 with details set to appear soon on darcywardfoundation.com
