A GROUP of 20 travellers who have set up at camp at the Quomps in Christchurch have now left.

Two caravans, three tents and a wooden wagon were in place at Christchurch Quay, a spokesperson from Dorset Police said.

A spokesperson from the council said: “A group of travellers arrived at the Quay yesterday.

“Officers from the council went to visit them along with the police.

“Last night the police served a Section 62 notice on them requiring the site to be vacated by 12 noon today.

“The travellers have indicated that they would be leaving then.

“Our officers will go down there around that time to help them off the site.”

Caravans have also been spotted at Waitrose car park in Christchurch.

Travellers have also set up camp on the only footpath into a Poole industrial estate.

A total of eight caravans were parked at the public walkway in Vantage Way, which is the sole route connecting the road with the Fulcrum Industrial Estate for walkers, this morning.

Workers who use the footpath for access to the estate had raised concerns about the site.

Alan Jenkins of Quadrant2Design said the travellers had blocked the path completely close to Sunseeker, Cycling Sports Group and DB Foods, forcing pedestrians to walk in the road.

However, by late morning, just two caravans remained at the site.

Officers from the Borough of Poole visited during the morning.

A spokesperson from the council said: "Initially, there were eight caravans at the site.

"Two were still there when officers visited. They are awaiting a tow.

"It is expected that all will have left the site by the afternoon."

A wooden wagon has also been seen at Boscombe Cliff Gardens.
