PLEASE, please, please can the powers that be resolve – for the health, wealth and secure future of its people and traders, visitors, and livelihood – the lifting bridges and railway barriers in Poole.

They’re unreliable.

Yet again, on Monday, July 18, there were just a couple of signs to say “out of action”.

Surely it’s time to install a tannoy system to explain how, when and why it can be fixed.

Surely it can be set to manual mode?

When I asked at the bus station if they could inform the passengers and public of the problems, delays and alternative routes of diversions, or any other public or travel concerns, I was told it was “automated”.

So what do the emergency services do in such cases and how can we inform visitors of what is going on?

I agree with letters by Ken Adams (July 12), Bryn Davies (July 5), and even Richard Durrant (July 6).

I will be a cancer survivor of 20 years in September and feel we cannot continue to take such cuts to the community budget.

I owe my life to Poole Hospital and its dedicated staff.

And we need seats and toilets in Poole, even if we seem young and fit!
