WIMBORNE Town boss Matty Holmes admitted there would be no room in his budget for any big-name signings on the eve of the season.

Holmes acknowledged he would need to blood youngsters in his maiden campaign in charge of the Southern South & West outfit.

Rookie keeper Gerard Benfield has signed from Hamworthy United as back up to Cherries loanee Pat O'Flaherty.

Holmes is also running the rule over former Arsenal youngster Josh Hartley, 19-year-old Jack Kinge-Phillips from Westover and Dan O'Sullivan, released from Cherries over the summer.

On the prospect of further recruitment, Holmes told the Daily Echo: "We have done our business now. There is nothing left so we will work with what we have.

"It is a young squad. We have our 14 players and then maybe me and Danny (Holmes, assistant manager) will have to sign up!

"We knew what it would be like. That said, we will still try to do things the right way and develop the youngsters."

Meanwhile, Holmes confirmed Cuthbury favourite Jason Harvell's return would be in a coaching capacity only.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper surprised many by retiring from semi-professional football last season.

"Jason will only be coaching," added Holmes. "He will take Gerard and the development keepers for sessions because Pat will do his work at Bournemouth.

"My son Luke is quite pally with Jason, he does a bit of work with him and mentioned he would be keen to get involved.

"He has looked at the new set up at the club and liked the way we played in our first warm-up game.

"Jason will have a huge role to play. He knows the game and the level inside out and can give Gerard valuable pointers as he starts out.

"I might know the basics but I don't profess to be goalkeeping coach at all and along with John Macey and Matt Maybury, who is helping us out.

"But with Jason, you have that technical advice you need and he will be a great mentor."
