PLANS for a new karting circuit near Bournemouth Airport could be given the green light - despite objections from residents.

The application for the proposed new circuit and some associated buildings to the north of Chapel Gate will go before Christchurch council planning committee on Thursday, recommended for approval.

It will replace the current one at Matchams Leisure Park in Matchams Lane.

The site, described as undeveloped grassland, was previously used for car boot sales.

A report to the committee says 35 letters of objection have been received, including letters from Hurn and West Parley parish councils and Bournemouth Airport.

They have raised concerns about noise and disturbance, the adverse impact on the Green Belt and residents and inadequate parking.

There are also fears it would generate more traffic.

Five letters of support have been received saying the karting circuit would be an asset to the area, and also enhance tourism.

Agents acting on behalf of the applicant, George Lovell, say the karts would be newly purchased for the site, with no more than 15 on the track at any one time.

The plans have been amended to include measures to reduce the sound by lowering ground levels and having a bund.

This has met with the approval of Environmental Health officers, the report states.

Special lighting has also been requested by the airport, to prevent light-spill.

A number of conditions are also recommended including one on the operating hours.

This suggests making them from 10am to 7pm on Tuesday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

The meeting will take place on Thursday at 6pm at the Civic Offices.
