A RECENT spate of recreational water craft thefts from beaches at Studland and Swanage has prompted Dorset Police to appeal for vigilance.

The thefts, reported over the past few weeks, have included kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, and dinghies.

A police spokesman explained: “There have been several reports of these thefts, firstly from Studland beach and now Swanage.

“The majority of these items have either been left unsecured down the side of the beach hut or tucked underneath.

“More recently even those that have been chained to the hut or a nearby wall have had the bolts cropped and the property stolen.”

On July 11, around 11.20pm, a 10ft white and grey paddleboard was stolen from a beach hut towards the Ocean Bay end of Swanage beach.

This was taken along with a two man tender that was chained to the wall.

The dinghy was grey in colour and branded ‘Hydroforce’.
