Echo readers have responded brilliantly after Victoria Beckham came in for criticism for kissing her daughter on the lips.

The Spice Girl turned fashion designer posted a lovely picture on Instagram at the weekend in celebration of Harper’s fifth birthday.

As we reported yesterday, she got abuse in the comments with some idiots calling the picture strange, suggestive and even sexual.

People on our website and Facebook page were not impressed with the negative reaction Mrs Beckham got for her mother-daughter snap.

In solidarity, some have shared photos of themselves kissing their own children – and you can see those touching images above.

We’ve also had some great comments in response to the story - here’s a selection of our favourites:

Samantha Van Eldik-creed said:  Honestly I think it's sad that you can't kiss your child on the lips without people making silly remarks. My kids kiss me daily, and as long as they want hugs and kisses, be it on the lips or whatever il be here with open arms. Kids aren't kids for long and I know pretty soon it won't be considered cool to kiss there mum. It's just a beautiful mother daughter moment, if people see something else in it there the ones with the problem not Victoria beckham .

Tracy Thorne said:  A beautiful pic of a loving mum and daughter, showing affection. Ridiculous to say anything else

Kerrie Giles said: Perfectly normal to show affection to those you love. If you see anything other than that, then you are the one with the problem. I love my girls and my mum, I have and always will kiss them on the lips! Xx

Mandy Chandler said: Well done Victoria for being an outwardly affectionate, loving, caring and tactile mum!!! There is nothing wrong in that, a perfectly normal thing to do. People who say other wise must be have been starved of real parental love & are missing out feeling very cold & unloved.

And Jason Allen said:  My 6 year old daughter still kisses me on the lips. When she doesn't want to anymore that's perfectly fine but until then what's wrong with it? The world is going bonkers
