FAMILIES will be in for a ‘fishy’ good time when they tee-off at Boscombe Pier this summer.

The UK’s first ever eco-friendly mini golf attraction opened on the pier last month, where the specially-made golf balls feed the fish.

Since then the attraction has proven very popular with both locals and tourists of all ages.

The course zig-zags along the neck of the pier, which means other users can still enjoy the pier while people are playing.

The final four holes are based at the end of the pier - including the 18th which is bottomless so the ball can fall into the sea.

Once the ball, known as an Ecobioball, hits the water, it biodegrades in less than 48 hours, releasing the fish food inside the ball.

Alexander Dagg, who is a mini golf attendant at Boscombe Pier, said the attraction has been really popular especially when the sun is shining.

“It opened during the weekend of the Wheel Festival and was really popular,” he said.

“Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been that great over the last couple of weeks but I think it will be really popular over the summer holidays.”

To play a round of golf costs £4 for adults, £3 for children and £12 for families. Each player gets a club and a ball.

However if you hit the ball over the edge of the pier it costs another £1.50 to replace it.

Despite the risk of this added cost most customers still think the attraction is value for money.

Grandmother Hazel Wheatcroft, who lives in Boscombe, said the mini golf was “absolutely brilliant”.

After taking her grandchildren Daisy, six, and Thomas, eight, for a day on the beach she said it was a good way to get them out of the sun for a while.

“It keeps the kids happy and it’s not very expensive either,” added Hazel.

“I think the biodegradable golf balls is a really excellent idea and adds an extra special element to the game.

“It’s also great to see the council really working hard to improve the Boscombe area and create a place that families want to come and visit.”

The course is open from 10am to 6pm daily.
