A POLISH woman was left shaken after a racially abusive letter was sent to her home.

The 33-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she “started to shake” and was “crying with anger” when she read the letter delivered to her on Saturday.

Written in Polish, it said ‘Go home Polish scum’ followed by the word ‘Brexit’.

A resident of Ensbury Park in Bournemouth, she has lived in England for 10 years and works as a care assistant.

She said: “I never thought something like this would happen to me. I’ve lived in England for many years, and I appreciate being in this country. I work full-time, I pay my taxes, and I’m a nice person - so why me?”

A single mother with a seven-year-old daughter, she said she felt frightened after receiving the abusive letter.

“This wasn’t just a random letter, it was addressed to me. I don’t know who it was, and I’m petrified now this was some sort of psycho.

“I feel paranoid now and don’t want to go out. None of my other Polish friends living here have experienced anything like this so they were really shocked.

“Since the referendum and Brexit, some people now think they have the power or the right to treat people like this.

“My British friends are ashamed to be in this country right now,” she added.

As reported in the Daily Echo last week, a young Polish child was also the victim of racist abuse in Bournemouth.

The youngster was playing in Queen’s Park with her family when other children started shouting “speak English, speak English”, said Adnan Chaudry, Chief Officer of the Dorset Race Equality Council.

Another recent incident saw a man being told to “f*** off and go home” while he was crossing the road in Bournemouth town centre.

Alex Stewart, 39, describes himself as visibly mixed race due his Eurasian heritage. He said a man travelling in a white van shouted the abuse.
