POLICE launched a search for a driver after a crash in Christchurch in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called at 4.39am to the Purewell roundabout following reports of a head-on collision.

The incident involved a black Vauxhall Corsa and a Vauxhall Vivaro panel van.

But they were forced to call for help from the NPAS helicopter crew after one of the drivers had run from the scene.

A tweet from the NPAS helicopter team saw an apology to residents in Mudeford as they searched for the missing person.

Two men were also taken to Poole Hospital after they suffered minor injuries.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “It was reported that the driver of one of the vehicles had made off from the scene.

“Officers together with the NPAS helicopter carried out a search of the area.

“No arrests have been made.”
