BOURNEMOUTH'S most vulnerable children are safe with the town's social care services, the council's executive director for children and adult services has said.

Jane Portman spoke out after representatives from the NPSCC said children were being let down across the south by local authorities.

Bournemouth's children's service was rated as 'requires improvement' by Ofsted in 2014.

“Ofsted judged two years ago that children are safe in Bournemouth and they continue to be so," Ms Portman said.

“We are confident that by implementing a robust improvement plan support and protection of children and young people in Bournemouth has improved.

“An independent peer review conducted in November last year checked our plans and confirmed we were making good progress in improving our response to children at risk of harm and those in need of protection.”

Two dedicated social workers have been employed to better respond to reducing risks to children and young people since the last inspection.

There has also been a 'significant' recruitment of qualified social workers.
