AROUND 5,000 people are expected visit an event in Hurn this weekend which features a drive-in cinema and an estimated 500 vehicles on display.

The second annual Route 66 Show will take place at the Hurn Bridge Show Ground directly opposite Bournemouth Airport in Christchurch on Saturday and Sunday featuring American, classic, sports, rally, military, VW, prestige and drifting cars and vehicles.

Other entertainment will include motorbikes, go karting, segways, a fun fair, live music, wrestling shows, cheerleading displays, lawnmower racing, stalls, autojumble and a food hall.

Film fans can also pull up to a drive-in cinema on Friday and Saturday night to see Cars, Grease and Fast and Furious 7 at 5pm, 7pm and 9pm, with popcorn and snacks available for sale for viewers to enjoy.

Emma Preston from the event said: "We are looking at around 5,000 people coming along across the weekend. We have a drive-in cinema on Friday and Saturday for 125 vehicles, although the Grease screenings are close to sell out.

"The response to the show was really good last year." Emma added that last year's event was struck by rain and wind, which proved testing for the organisers to deal with, but they are determined to make the Route 66 Show a successful under their five-year plan.

"There will be lots of car clubs from the area coming to the event and we have around vehicles and motorbikes scheduled in for display, although this could be more on less depending on the day."

According to the Route 66 Show website, car clubs set to attend include Dorset VW Club, Southern Subaru Car Club, Hampshire BMW Club Stand, Dorset Japanese Car Club, Dorset Evos Club, Bournemouth and District Car Club, Wessex Car Club, Dorset RS owners club and the Drift Owners Ringwood.

Admission for the drive-in cinema screenings are £20 per vehicle. Tickets for the Route 66 Show cost £10 for adults, £8 for OAPS and concessions, £5 for children aged five to 15 and free for under-fives which are available on the door.
