The 12th annual Bourne Free festival takes place in Bournemouth this weekend. Festivities begin at 5pm on Friday with a surprise opening to wow crowds in The Square. A free Family fun night in association with Julia’s House children’s hospices will then begin at The Triangle featuring an open air screening of Rio 2, live music and tribute acts. The main attraction will be a spectacular parade. It will start from 11am on East Cliff on Saturday before making its way through the town and finishing at The Triangle at 12pm.

The ninth annual British Beach Polo Championships comes to Sandbanks on Friday. The two-day event will feature some of the UK's top polo players who will be watched from the sides of the arena by up to 3,000 people. New for this year will be two exhibition matches from The Pony Club. This will include younger players on smaller than usual ponies taking to the arena.

The British Heart Foundation's annual Pier to Pier swim takes place on Sunday. Hundreds of fundraisers are expected to brave the 1.4 miles for the open water swim from Bournemouth to Boscombe. It starts from Bournemouth Pier at 10am. You must be at least 14 years old to take part and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For more information go to bhf.org.uk

A giant water slide comes to Lymington High Street on Sunday to raise money for Oakhaven Hospice. The slide will be positioned from Costa Coffee down to the buffer zone that ends on Gosport Street. Entry has now sold out but you'll still be able to go along and watch. 

Ringwood's annual British Pedal Car Grand Prix returns on Sunday. Sponsored by Ringwood Brewery, the event will see the main streets of Ringwood town centre closed to make way for the circuit. Nearly 70 teams are registered to take part and this year there will be two races. The first race is at 10.45am with the podium awards ceremony taking place at 4.40pm.

Grooves on the Green returns to Ashley Cross Green this weekend. The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday with live music, comedy, poetry, food and drink stands and even a silent disco. Acts lined-up for Saturday include Pachango, Dubheart and Freefall Collective. Then on Sunday, catch Powdered Cows, Mischa and his Merry Men, Mother Uckers with headliners Pronghorn bringing the event to a close. Advance tickets are £5 with children 12 and under free. Forty vintage vehicles will take over Poole Quay on Sunday between 10am and 4pm to mark the centenary of Hants & Dorset bus company. The family event will include memorabilia stands, refreshments and entertainment. Morebus, the 21st century descendant of Hants & Dorset, has arranged the event in support of Dorset children’s hospice Julia’s House.

King's Park Academy, based on Ashley Road, will host their summer fair on Saturday from 12pm to 3pm. The event will feature a pirate theme and will offer games, food, the Dolphin Marching Band and a display by Liberty's Owl Raptor and Reptile Centre. Admission is £1 per adult and free for children.
