GERMAN cars in every colour of all ages were shined up and lined up for a special annual event.

The V Dub at the Pub - a celebration of Volkswagen cars and campervans - saw thousands of revellers descend on the Wimborne festival over the weekend.

Campervan and motoring enthusiasts from all across the south came together on Saturday and Sunday for the colourful event, the highlight of which was the show-and-shine competition for the vehicles.

Different models were awarded in the categories which included best Beetle, Golf, Polo, paint, and 'most in need of improvement'.

Gemma Varfield, a promoter for the event organisers, said the weekend had once again been a hit.

She said: "We had a few showers throughout the weekend but everyone just dived into the live music tents until they passed. It has been a really, really good show. There have been lots of kids, and families and campers. And we've [had] a great car show with all the Volkswagens lined up and live music the whole weekend."

Around 3,000 people were expected to turn out for the entertainment which included live music from such musicians as Si Genaro, Pianoman Matt Black, Clockwork Carousel, Arrows of Time, and The Shapes.

And because visitors were situated right on the River Stour, it meant they were able to enjoy some watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding. Others engaged in a tug of war, the surf simulator, zorbing, climbing wall, skateboarding, go-karting and watched unique performances from Alfredo the Magic Man.

"It is predominantly a Volkswagen show - a family-friendly show, with lots of entertainment," Gemma added.

"We've had dodgeball, welly-throwing, kayaking, and great some great headline acts.

"Everybody has loved it and had a really good time. We've [had] loads of stalls and it is the biggest show we have ever had.

"It's our ninth year and its got progressively bigger each year. We'll try to extend the site next year. It's been an absolute sell-out - we've all had the best time."
