THE new refreshment kiosk in the Lower Gardens is finally open.

The kiosk, which serves ice-cream, drinks and other snacks, opened yesterday ready for the Bank Holiday weekend.

It was originally due to open for the first May Bank Holiday but was delayed while Bournemouth Borough Council searched for an operator.

The new state-of-the-art kiosk, which is located on the path from Westover Road nearest the Pavilion, also has space for tables and chairs.

Under the Lower Gardens “masterplan” produced in 2010, the aviary and surrounding Pine Walk area of the gardens is set for a total revamp.

Part of the revamp included replacing the old kiosk opposite the aviary with the new one.

As well as the new kiosk improved landscaping and planting and a totally new aviary are also on the cards after being granted planning permission.

Although the council is still fundraising for the £200,000 needed for the aviary.

Architects from firm Morgan-Carey have been contracted by the council for the work, which is supported by the Bournemouth Parks Foundation.
