A SHEEP can count its lucky stars after fire fighters plucked it from a river.
The hapless farm animal found itself in dire straits in the River Stour in Hinton St Mary on Friday evening.
In the first call made by a concerned member of the public to the RSPCA, it was reported that only its head was visible above the water.
They called Dorset Fire and Rescue and at 5.56pm a pump from Sturminster Newton was dispatched to save the sheep.
A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue said: "The Sturminster Newton team were there in under ten minutes.
"The animal rescue from Poole was also called in and they successfully repatriated the sheep with the farmer."
