A MAN was airlifted to hospital after a serious crash between four cars on Boundary Lane last night.

Police said the casualty has suffered 'potentially life-threatening injuries' in the collision.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 9.29pm on Wednesday evening.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the NPAS helicopter also attended the crash, which took place on Boundary Lane near Avon Forest Autos at St Leonards.

The road remained closed overnight while investigators examine the scene. It has now reopened.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "One man was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance with potentially life-threatening injuries.

"A second man was taken to Poole General Hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening."

The vehicles involved include a Vauxhall Astra, Subaru Impreza, Mini Cooper and a BMW 116.

No arrrests have been made.

Windscreens, bumpers and bits of engine cluttered the field where the vehicles ended up.

Police put up security tape to try and stop cows from entering the road when they're returned to their pen - where much debris was found this morning.

They have reminded motorists to take care when driving there today.

Two dog walkers out this morning said it is the worst crash they had heard of on the road.

"They come down here at such speeds," one unnamed walker said.

Any witnesses should contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 4:471.
