The A31 eastbound was shut for several hours today after a crash near Minstead.

Two people have been injured in the crash and have been taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The crash involved a silver Peugeot 307 which has come off the road into a ditch while two passengers, a man and a woman, were inside the vehicle.

Police were called at 11.24am. 

The man, in his 30s, has been taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance with a serious possible life-threatening head injury, and the woman, in her 20s, was been taken to hospital by land ambulance with serious injuries.

One rapid response unit, two ambulances, three vehicles from the hazardous area response team and the air ambulance attended. 

The A31 was shut from Poulner Hill, with official diversions via the A338 to Salisbury and back down to junction 2 of the M27 until 2.30pm.
