It must be around twenty years since I last saw Cast so I was really looking forward to tonight.

John Power and the guys strolled onto the stage and immediately rolled back the years, helped in part by the fact that John looks almost exactly as he did then (it was dark mind!).

Starting the set with Promised Land and Tell It Like It Is, the energy both onstage and in the crowd was a real pleasure and it was obvious that I was not the only one that wanted to make the most of seeing this great band in a relatively small venue.

Sandstorm and Fine Time, two songs from the bands excellent first album All Change followed, and sounded just as fresh and vital as when they were first released and increased the energy and volume yet again.

The band have been spending time in the studio writing and recording for a new album so this tour was always going to be an opportunity to try out some new songs.

Kicking Up Dust, the possible title track went down well and is a good indicator that the album will be worth the wait.

Guiding Star, which is such an exuberant song you can't help but bounce along, got the crowd moving again quickly followed by Live The Dream before the pace slowed for an excellent version of Walkaway which really made the night for me.

I have always loved that song and to hear it live standing ten feet away from the band was a real pleasure.

An excellent drum solo and that was the end of the main set. Cue another benefit of such a small venue which is that there is not really anywhere for the band to go so it was pretty much straight on to the three song encore which started with new track Baby Blue Eyes and ended with a rousing version of Alright.

So that was it and it was out into the night with a massive smile on my face, some more great memories, and a T-shirt that probably won't fit me unless I lose a few pounds. What a great start to my long weekend!
