A HIGH Street bank was closed in Christchurch on Friday due to “essential maintenance”.

Customers of Barclays were unable to use the branch, which had a sign on its door stating it was closed ‘due to circumstances beyond our control’.

A spokesperson for Barclays could not provide details about the maintenance work being carried out, but said: “We’re working closely with the team to make sure the branch will be ready to open on Monday.

“We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused while this essential maintenance is carried out.”

The branch is closed on weekends. It is due to re-open at its normal time of 9.30am on Monday.
