FRESH plans for a car park service to rival Bournemouth Airport's facilities have been formally submitted.

BOMO Parking Ltd’s tweaked application, which comes after it withdrew a similar one late last year, would see part of nearby Adventure Wonderland’s car park used to supply up to 75 spaces.

The company’s managing director, John Smith, said the scheme would offer extra choice at a lower cost.

“The savings will be a dramatic 78 per cent on turn up rate and 40 per cent on pre-booked rate,” he said, explaining that the car park has recently undergone a £50,000 upgrade and now has tarmac roadways.

“It also saves passengers the hugely unpopular drop-off charge. This door-to-door service will crucially also be a huge improvement for disabled drivers.”

The scheme would see the company collect customers’ cars from the airport and take them to the theme park site, before meeting the passenger on their return with the vehicle.

Mr Smith said a cheaper parking facility would help eliminate illegal roadside parking and urged people to contact Christchurch council to support the application.

“It will provide the much needed competition to drive down airport parking charges and make Bournemouth Airport a more attractive destination to fly from,” said Mr Smith.

He added that the site benefits from 6ft security fencing and on-site staff.

But a spokesman for Bournemouth Airport said: “Companies which offer a ‘meet and greet’ service are completely unregulated.

“Cars are driven away from the airport and parked in areas with very few, if any, security measures.

“We received a lot of complaints last year about ‘off airport parking’ but, as these companies operate independently of the airport, unfortunately we have no way of helping those who have booked with them.

“The airport invests a significant amount of time and money to ensure that cars are parked in a secure environment which meets the stringent requirements of the Park Mark status. This confirms that our car parks are safe and secure, and that we have strict measures in place for deterring criminal activity.”
