IMPROVED GCSE results at Twynham School have seen it named in the Top 100 non-selective state schools in England.

The Christchurch secondary was listed as one of those showing the greatest sustained improvement in the percentage of pupils achieving five or more A*-C grades, including English and mathematics.

Now head teacher Dr Terry Fish has received a letter of congratulations from Nick Gibb MP, Minster of State for Education, for the second year running.

In the letter the Minister thanked Dr Fish and his colleagues for their contribution to the education of young people.

He added: "Ensuring your pupils are achieving at least the benchmark standard of attainment at Key Stage 4 provides a strong basis for their further education and employment."

Dr Fish said: "This is a wonderful endorsement of all the excellent hard work of our students and staff and I was delighted to receive this second letter from the Minister of State for Education.

"At a time when GCSEs are being made more challenging and many schools are struggling with the changing nature of the GCSEs, Twynham continues to flourish. Twynham has never entered students for examinations purely for league tables, but has always focused on high quality teaching with a curriculum which is right for the students and their futures."

Twynham also received notification from Alps (Advanced Level Performance System) recognising the Twynham sixth Form for its sustained excellence over the past three years.

The school has been consistently in the top 25 per cent of sixth form providers for adding value from students’ GCSE to A-Level results. Dr Fish added: "To be recognised for the excellence of our A-Level results as well is simply wonderful. Everyone associated with the school should be as proud as I am with the performance of our students."
