A MAJOR gas leak has closed the A354 from Blandford Forum to Pimperne.
Engineers from SGN have since located and repaired the leak. They are now reinstating the gas supply and the road is due to re-open by 8pm.
Hannah Brett, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN, said earlier today: "We’re working to repair our gas main in the A354 Salisbury Road.
"Our main is located in the centre of the carriageway so we need to close Salisbury Road in both directions between Blandford Forum and Pimperne to ensure the safety of our engineers as they work.
"Traffic should divert from the A350 at Higher Shaftesbury Road and rejoin the A354 Salisbury Road via Church Road at Pimperne.
"We’re sorry for any disruption the temporary road closure may cause to motorists while we carry out this emergency repair.
"We’re doing everything we can to complete our repair and reopen Salisbury Road as quickly as possible."
Dorset County Council has asked the gas company to keep it updated so the council can review the traffic management throughout the day.
