BUTTERFLY ace Jacob Peters spread his wings at Sheffield to record his third and fourth national records in two months.

The 15-year-old British junior champion led a Poole tally of medals, records and national qualifying times at the Derventio eXcel Open Meet.

He won the 16-17yrs 50m and 100m butterfly, breaking the British 15yrs age group record with a time of 25.54 seconds in the 50m heats before beating it with 25.27 in the final.

Those times, and his winning 100m time of 56.31, were also Dorset junior long-course records.

Peters, who set his first British junior records at the ASA National Winter Meet in the same pool in December, added a bronze in the 200m butterfly to his Sheffield haul.

Poole team-mate Harriet Perfect, 15, was also in record-breaking form having lowered her own Dorset senior and junior records.

In the heats of the 15-16yrs 100m backstroke, she set a time of 1:05.25 and then shaved off a second to win the final. She completed her medal set with silver in the 200m backstroke (2:21.56) and bronze in the 50m back (31.79).

Jasmine Holmes will be joining Peters and Perfect at the Olympic trials in Glasgow in April having recorded a qualifying time of 2:06.45 to come fourth in the 200m freestyle.

Three other Poole swimmers made the podium. Jazz McCrea won gold in the 15-16yrs 50m and 100m butterfly in 29.27 and 1:05.15, while Emily Clarke won silver in the 17 and over 400m freestyle in 4:24.28. Thea O’Keefe took bronze in the 15-16yrs 100m freestyle in 1:00.40 and was fourth in the 200m.

Teagan-Mae Graham made the top 10 in the distance events, placing eighth in the 800m freestyle and ninth in the 400m.

Matt Collins, making his debut for Poole after a move from Swim Bournemouth, finished 10th in the 1500m freestyle.

  • Dorset's Olympic hopeful Jay Lelliott gave himself a timely boost ahead of his trials with gold and silver medals at the Flanders Speedo Cup meet in Antwerp.

He finished ahead of his nearest challenger in the 1500m freestyle in 15:12.30 and was second in the 400m freestyle.
