CCTV images have been released in the hunt for a burglar who stole £11 - but caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage at a Christchurch sports club.

Staff at Highcliffe Sports and Social Club have published the images from the club's own CCTV cameras, following a recent burglary.

The incident at the premises on Lymington Road in Highcliffe, is believed to have taken place on January 30.

A man entered the building at 8.30pm, when the club was open, and is seen leaving, before returning later and hiding upstairs.

Staff, unaware anyone was upstairs, locked up at the end of the night, returning the next day to discover the damage.

Alex Barnes, speaking on behalf of the club, said the man had hidden from staff doing their checks at the end of the night.

And he said despite taking just £11, more than £400 of damage was caused to the tills and one of the gaming machines and hot water urn.

The room upstairs has pool tables, but was not used by anyone else that night, he added.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said they were called to reports of a break in at Highcliffe Sports and Social Club.

Officers are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 31:170.
